ANTON NIKKILÄ presents Literal Translations

Anton Nikkilä is a Finnish musician and composer whose work since the beginning of the 1990s has had several points of contact with underground music from Eastern Europe, particularly from its post-Soviet period: he collaborated for over 10 years with Russian musician Alexei Borisov, a key figure in the Moscow experimental community, specializing as an investigator and promoter of industrial music produced between 1980 and 2000.

‘Literal Translations’, the new audiovisual work that he will be presenting in Barreiro, is a filmless film, set up on a ‘vertical’ quadraphonic, ’anti-immersive’ system, whose conceptual foundation is the artist’s historical interpretation of Soviet avant-garde art.

This concert is presented by UNEARTHING THE MUSIC, a project by OUT.RA in collaboration with partners in Latvia, Hungary, Romania and Serbia, co-financed by the European Union’s Creative Europe programme, whose main goal is to investigate and provide visibility to experimental music in Europe's non-democratic regimes in the second half of the 20th century, especially those beyond the so-called 'Iron Curtain'.
